Biography

Paul has been Chief Financial Officer of Arch Europe since October 2005.  Paul qualified as a Chartered Accountant with Coopers & Lybrand in 1989.  His insurance career began in 1990 and since then he has worked at a number of insurance companies including Hiscox, Odyssey Re and Zurich Insurance Company.  From 2000, until joining Arch Europe, he served as CFO of Zurich Corporate Solutions, based mainly in Zurich.  Paul serves on the Finance and Taxation Committee of the International Underwriting Association of London (IUA), the representative organisation for international and wholesale insurance and reinsurance companies.  He is a director of the Boards of Arch Insurance Company (Europe) Ltd. and Arch Underwriting at Lloyd’s Ltd and is a Trustee of Lloyd’s Syndicate 2012.

Biography

Keith is Group Chief Risk Officer at Bupa where he is responsible for the Group’s risk, actuarial, compliance and financial crime functions. He also plays a leading role in managing the implementation of Solvency 2 within Bupa.

Keith has a long track record in corporate governance having worked for a number of multi-national businesses across a variety of sectors, including financial services and utilities.

Biography

John Scott is Chief Risk Officer for Zurich Global Corporate. He joined Zurich in 2001 becoming Head of Risk Insight in 2007 and took on his current role in 2009. John leads the global, regional and local implementation of the Group’s enterprise risk management strategy across Global Corporate.

A graduate of Oxford University, with a PhD in geology, John's early career was in the upstream oil & gas industry, where he gained wide-ranging international experience with BP. In 1995 he gained his MBA at Cranfield and joined BOC, as a key member of the Group Strategy & Planning team, and then later became General Manager of BOC’s Edwards business division.

John is a member of the Institute of Directors in the UK and currently chairs the CCSA (Carbon Capture and Storage Association) group on risk.

Renzo Avesani

Biography

Dr. Renzo G. Avesani is currently the Chief Risk Officer of “Gruppo Unipol”,  a conglomerate that incorporates the third largest Italian insurance company. He is  responsible for market, credit, insurance, liquidity risks, capital allocation and ALM. Since Unipol Gruppo is a financial conglomerate he integrates the responsibilities for the insurance (Unipol Aaaicurazioni) and the banking business (“Unipol Banca”).

He is part of several board of directors in Italian and foreign companies.

Previously, Dr. Renzo G. Avesani was a senior economist in the Financial Supervision and Regulation Division at the Monetary and Financial Systems Department of the International Monitory Fund (IMF). At the IMF he worked on international financial surveillance issues, developing market based indicators of financial stability, implementing Stress Test exercises (FSAP) for advanced and emerging economies, and was involved in the design of the IMF Risk Management approach.

Former Head of Risk Management at ”Banca Intesa” in Italy, he set up the Risk Management Department and developed the organization and technology framework for the Risk Management function.

After completing the PhD in International Finance at New York University, he taught Economics and Finance in the Italian University.

Biography

Mark is the Group Enterprise Risk Director at Aviva. His responsibilities include the design of the groupwide risk management framework and governance arrangements, the operation of group-level risk reporting, the risk function's review of strategy, business plans and the internal capital model and the design of the risk management framework. Prior to joining Aviva, Mark spent 16 years at Watson Wyatt and Towers Watson where he led the firm's global risk and value services for life insurers. Mark is also chairman of the Groupe Consultatif's Solvency II Internal Models Working Group.

Biography

Rachid is a fellow of the institute of actuaries in the UK and France and has 17 years experience in actuarial and risk management across Europe and Asia. His expertise lies in ALM, EC, Replication, risk systems and risk governance working at operational and head office level. One of his risk management innovations has been the introduction of a dynamic Equity Backing Ratio to a UK with-profits fund in 2003.

Biography

Chris Chappell is the Group Chief Actuary with LV=.  LV= is a mutual insurance company that transacts both life and non-life business in the UK.  Chris is responsible for the Heritage business, capital management and technical actuarial development, which includes the modelling solutions.  He is also the sponsor of the internal model development for Solvency 2.  Previously, Chris has also worked for multinational insurers, which provides him with an understanding of the challenges faced by globally diverse businesses.

European Enterprise Risk Director, Aviva

Biography

José has extensive international experience in insurance, banking and management consulting, both in Europe and in the U.S. He is currently the European Enterprise Risk Director for Aviva, where he is responsible for risk oversight and capital management of Aviva’s European operations in 12 countries. He is also  responsible for Pillar II (Solvency II) programme in Europe.

José is also Board member of the Institute of Risk Management (IRM). Prior to Aviva, José was Chief Risk Officer for Groupama (UK) and insurance/risk expert at McKinsey & Company. He has also played senior roles for Moody's Investor Service, Liberty Mutual and Banco Santander.

Jose holds a  Master of Science in Finance from Boston College, a MBA from Instituto de Empresa and a Bachelors in Business Studies. Jose is also a Chartered Financial Analyst (CFA) charter-holder and member of the Institute of Risk Management (IRM).

Kevin Borrett

Biography

Kevin graduated as an economist from University College of Wales and joined RSA where he spent 17 years in a variety of commercial and personal lines underwriting and operational management roles.

 

Between 1994 and 1996 he was seconded to the DTI Insurance Directorate (now part of the FSA) as a consultant adviser and supervisor which he combines with completing an MBA from Sir John Cass Business School.

 

In 2000 he was recruited as a founding member of the team to establish the Mitsui Sumitomo Insurance, London Insurance Market business including its Lloyds 3210 Syndicate operations. As a Director of MSI London Ltd from 2007 to 2009, his responsibilities included Underwriting, Pricing, Reinsurance and Risk Management.

 

In February 2010 Kevin joined Unum UK in a consultancy capacity responsible for the development of the Unum Solvency II ORSA and Use Test, before accepting a permanent appointment in October 2010 as UK Head of Risk for Unum including overall responsibility for the technical leadership of its Solvency II programme.  

In September 2011 Kevin was appointed a Director of ORIC Ltd, the leading international consortium, which collects, standardizes and reports operational risk loss data for the insurance and asset management industry. The consortium was launched by the ABI in 2005 to address the apparent lack of high quality loss data within the insurance industry. He is also an Appointed Trustee of the Chartered Insurance Institute Defined Benefits Pension Scheme.

In his spare time, Kevin enjoys playing golf, albeit badly. A qualified football referee, he is also Chairman of Horsham Football Club whose senior team play in the Ryman Premier League, as well as competing with a series of Sussex youth teams from age 11 upwards.

Biography

Matthew Yeager joined Colt as Chief Technologist in September 2011.  He is responsible for working with customers to ensure that Colt’s enterprise solutions deliver on the Colt customer centric model, as well as working with technology partners to incorporate their product roadmaps and emerging technologies into Colt’s solutions portfolio.

Matthew brings a great depth of technical knowledge and business acumen to the role developed during the last 15 years in the IT industry.  Prior to joining Colt, Matthew was the Practice Leader, Data for Computacenter where he significantly increased revenues whilst improving skills and capabilities.  Previous roles include Practice Manager at MTI Technology and Enterprise Systems Architect at The New Technology Group.

Matthew has studied at the IMD (International Institute for Management Development) as well as at the University of Pittsburgh.  He was one of the first certified EMC Cloud Architects and is an Apple Certified Professional and PRINCE2 Practitioner.

Biography

James became Colt’s specialist insurance consultant in 2009.  He is responsible for developing Colt’s services for the insurance sector which includes the development of capital and catastrophe modelling specific platforms,

James has worked in the London Insurance Market since 1989 in a number of organisations from brokers through to Lloyd’s in-house reinsurance company Centrewrite and Lloyd’s managing agent The Euclidian Group where he held the role of Group Information Manager.  He moved to a service provider role in 2005, joining specialist insurance software house the Wildnet Group before moving to Colt. James has been a  fellow of the Chartered Insurance Institute since 2000.
