The aftermath of the 2008 financial crisis saw governments introducing changes to existing regulation which have led to ongoing debate about the desirability and implementation of the more controversial proposals, such as ringfencing. Following the publication of the Independent Commission on Banking report, Sir John Vickers spoke at our Beesley Lecture on 6th October 2011 to discuss how these recommendations will affect the financial services sector.

He discussed the recommendations outlined in his Vickers Report, including undertaking structural reforms to make banks safer, increasing banks' loss-absorbing capacity, and increasing competition in the sector.
